recent shooting happening a few blocks away from bishop high school in east oakland. juliette goodrich is in oakland tonight. juliette, looks like 2013 is coming in the way 2012 went out. >> reporter: ken, these suspects still at large. it has been a chaotic and very deadly day today in oakland. we're talking about four reported homicides in a span of six hours today. this latest deadly incident phoned in at 8:15 tonight. chopper 5 giving you some pictures above the crime scene. it happened along 94th avenue on hillside street. neighbors reported hearing 20 to 30 gunshots. police are looking for the suspects. bullet casings are found everywhere in the area. one man is confirmed dead. now, this is following three other homicides. those three homicides happening within a two-hour time period today, this afternoon. tonight, police are looking for the suspects in all of today's homicides. there have been no arrests. but they are especially concentrating their efforts along 94th avenue, where this latest deadly shooting occurred. police still

with a memorial service at noon at mission dolores. >>> oakland police are under pressure to track down a gunman in four different shootings after four people were killed within a few hours of each other yesterday afternoon. one of the victims was a 17-year-old man. the shooting spanned different neighborhoods of that city from west oakland to deep east oakland. this is the scene at the fourth shooting which happened around 8:15 last night on hillside street. not far from bishop o'dowd high school. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. the man's killing is oakland's 60th homicide of the new year -- sixth homicide of the new year, that is. police say they have linked all four homicides to several rival gangs. there have been no arrests. >>> a teenager from milpitas died in a crash this morning, and the driver of the car is in serious condition. the accident happened on northbound 880 in san jose near gish road at about 1:30 this morning. the chp says the car was speeding and somehow flipped ending up on its roof. the passenger was thrown from the car. alcohol and/or drugs are suspected. >>

weather has returned to the bay area and late this afternoon in downtown oakland, this is what it looked like. mark tamayo is here with a look at where the rain is falling at this moment. mark? >> jana, the first rain of 2013, and the rainfall has been picking up over the past couple of hours across parts of the bay area. live storm tracker 2 shows you the current pattern. there's a live doppler sweep showing you the rainfall out there. up towards santa rosa, parts of the north bay, steady to moderate to heavy rain, especially with darker shades of green towards santa rosa and moving into parts of napa county as well, around glenn ellen, sonoma. closer to san francisco and oakland, the rainfall rates have been picking up here, especially across the bay bridge. challenge driving across the bay bridge right now. toward the inlet east bay, concord, danville, danville area, rainfall has been picking up out toward oakland and lafayette. and the south bay, san jose reporting light rain, santa cruz mountains around highway 17. rainfall will continue to pick up heading into the evening hours. co

: it was a deadly day in oakland. police say there were four shooting deaths today. the first was reported around 2:30 p-m when police found a man hit with multiple gun shot wounds near east 17th street and 23rd avenue. he was transported to the hospital but later died. at around three p-m a man was found dead also suffering from gun shots near canon ave and wellington st just after 4 p-m a shooting was reported at 34th near west st.. no victims were found but later a man was admitted to a nearyby hospital where he died. and just after eight. police found a man dead suffering from gun shot wounds on hillside ave. near 94th street. there are no suspects in any of the four incidents. >> oakland police conducted several raids today in an effort to crack down on the city's crime wave. oakland has suffered an escalating problem with violence. such as the homicide you see here, where a woman and man were shot as they went through a drive- through restaurant. police launched 'operation ceasefire' to try and stem the violence. in the raid, police say, they detained 6 people. and confiscated guns and other

, cayman died at the oakland zoo shortly after it was seized in a potted busted. the owner was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale. he could face other charges including possession after an exotic animal without a permit. they provided this photo of a 34 pounds of marijuana they say they found at the grow house. it is valued more than a hundred thousand dollars. >> a grandmother has been arrested accused of stealing $400,000 from the santa clara county nonprofit where she worked. 62-year-old woman took hundreds of documents housing for independent people to pay for unneeded repairs for her oakland home. the d.a.'s office she filed fake claims for repairs and then pocketed that money. >> teacher credited with diffuse ago school shooting in kern county. it happened in taft. a 16-year-old was armed with a shotgun, he shot one student and fired one other shot. the student was hit is hospitalized in critical condition. the quick acting teacher got the other students out the backdoor and he another staff member convinced the shooter to put down the gun. >> the best i can te

news from oakland where crews are mopping up after a house fire. it started at 9:00 this morning. we were overhead as flames burned through the roof. thick smoke could be seen for quite a distance. it took an hour to knock the fire down. investigators are looking into a suspicious fire that destroyed an abandoned pier this morning with crews responding in crockett near jackson avenue near the c&h sugar plant at 3:45 the firefighters let the fire bun itself out. a crew fought from the water. here is the pier before it burned. it is suspicious because there is no electrical wiring on the pier. >> santa clara sheriff is investigating a fatal accident in cupertino when a woman was killed. the woman was walking and hit by a big rig after 7:00 near cupertino road. no word on the identity of the woman or if the truck driver will face charges. >> we have new details on a tanker that hit the bay bridge. the pilot made a last-minute turn before passing under the bridge. our media partner reported the pilot planned to follow the yellow line but changed lanes to cross near yerba buena island isl

on the streets of oakland as police investigate four deadly shootings that all happened within a six hour span. the most recent killing happened at 8:15 tonight on the 900 block of hillside. they found a male suffering from a fatal gunshot wound he was pronounced dead on the scene. there are reports that as many as 30 shots were fired. the chp assisted police in the search for several suspects seen running from that area. >>> late this afternoon police responded to reports of shots fired in the 3400 block of west street in west oakland. it was about 4:15 when officers arrived on the scene. they say by then the victims were gone. he had somehow been transported to the hospital where he later died. about an hour earlier at 3:00 this afternoon a man was found dead of gunshot wounds near diamond park in the glen view district. police reported a man down. police are calling this a homicide but there is no further information. and yet another shooting happened around 2:30 this afternoon in the 2300 block of east 17th street. police said the victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. he was c
. ktvu tara moriarty is at the scene of police activity. it's happening in oakland. what is going on out there? >> reporter: we're not going to say exactly where we are. this operation is still under way. oakland police are doing a raid on this block you see behind me. there are emergency personnel out here. this is one of many raids going on this morning. we are told this operation one of the riskiest. these are alleged gang members and that weapons, drugs that sort of thing is being confiscated right now. the helicopter has been above us since before 5:00 this morning. that is when swat teams moved in and told the people inside of this home to get out. neighbors did report hearing a loud boom. we are not sure if that is a door being kicked in or flash grenades were being used. there is a tactical unit at the top of the street along with an ambulance. oakland police remaining tight lipped who these people are. once the raid is over and the evidence has been seized we'll be learning more about this operation. this is one of the biggest raids happening in the city of oakland. live from oa
